Muktinath is considered one of the eight sacred shrines of Lord Vishnu, known as Svayam Vyakta Kshetras (self-manifested temples). According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu transformed into a Saligram (a sacred black stone) to reside at Muktinath. Saligrams are worshipped as manifestations of Vishnu and are found in the Kali Gandaki River near the temple. It is said that taking a ritual bath under these spouts washes away sins and grants liberation from the cycle of rebirth. According to legend, these ponds were created by Lord Vishnu to purify the souls of devotees. Bathing in these ponds is believed to cleanse one's sins and bring spiritual merit.
